Memphremagog’s Floating Classroom: The Northern Star
MemSEC’s transformative learning environment extends beyond traditional classrooms. Our flagship program, the Northern Star Floating Classroom, offers students all around Lake Memphremagog a unique opportunity for hands-on exploration. Aboard this vessel, participants:
- Engage in Experiential Learning: Through direct observation and study, students gain a deeper appreciation for the lake’s watershed, the vital role water quality plays on the diverse biological community, and current issues impact the health and well-being of Lake Memphremagog.
- Develop Fieldwork Skills: Utilizing state-of-the-art scientific equipment, students actively measure water quality parameters, fostering a practical understanding of environmental monitoring techniques. Gaining skills with hands-on science enables and empowers our students to more effectively learn about our local environment.

The Gateway Center: Unveiling the Memphremagog Story
